Acetabular Cup System
May 29th, 2008Doctors will use an Acetabular Cup System in a total or partial hip replacement procedures for patients suffering from severe pain and disability due to structural damage in the hip joint from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, collagen disorders, avascular necrosis, traumatic and non-union of femoral fractures. Use of the prosthesis is also indicated for patients with congenital hip dysplasia, protusio acetabuli, slipped capital epiphysis, and disability due to previous fusion, where bone stock is inadequate for other reconstruction techniques.
Acetabular Cup Systems are designed to enhance fixation in the acetabulum with tri-spiked, cluster holes and full dome product configurations. The product is designed to minimize micromotion on three primary modes: Tilt, migration and rotation. The porous coating has been chosen for a mean pore size of 145 microns which has been effective in clinical trials for bone fixation.
The Acetabular Cup System is manufactured from Co-Cr-Mo (Cobalt-Chromium Molybdenum) alloy and UHMWPE. Co-Cr-Mo has a high fatigue strength, bio compatibility and superior resistance to corrosion. UHMWPE has been used in orthopedic applications for decades and has a history of proven success and longevity with biocompatibility, very good resistance to corrosion and a superior bearing surface for articulation.
